Orkney has an abundance of fresh local produce. Meat, fish, shellfish, cheese, ice cream and bakery, all are produced here in Orkney to the highest standard. At Appie’s we take full advantage of this and have arranged our menu solely around foods that are produced locally. Contact details as to where we source our foods are provided on the menu so that you’ll know where to go to for more! Salad leaves, herbs, preserves/chutneys d eggs are all produced here on site at Appie’s.

We aim to provide a good healthy menu – no cream or deep-fat fryer – use as much fresh local produce as possible, provide equivalents of all items on the menu for people requiring vegetarian and gluten-free diets and above all produce simple home-cooking. It was very gratifying therefore that in the first year of opening Appie’s Tea Room in 2006, we won the Orkney Quality Food and Drink Award for the Best Light Lunch and High Tea and were nominated again in 2007.
Appie’s is a friendly place (including the cats, Smudge and Clamber) and our aim is to help you get as much as possible out of your visit to Orkney. To this end we have an extensive array of leaflets and will offer as much advice as possible in order to help you plan your holiday itinerary. For those quiet moments we also have a Charity Bookshelf (your old books always welcome) the proceeds of which goes to the local branches of Age Concern and The Samaritans.
So, when you next come to Orkney come and find us, we feel sure you’ll enjoy your visit. Just take a window seat and admire the view or better still, weather permitting, sit out on the decking, relax and drink in the pure, fresh Orkney air.
